Safelands plc commissioned Stuff International Design Ltd to redesign and revitalise the 1960s Harrison Gibson building on the main high street of Ilford in North East London. We sought with Safelands to transform its extremely ugly exterior and create an iconic, impactful building to help regenerate the town centre. Formerly a furniture retailer, our plans were to change it into a mixed use development, including retail, leisure, a hotel and residential.
We remodelled the space to be more dynamic by moving the core circulation areas to create better vertical movement for customers. Our plans were completed in 2010, enabling Safelands to sell the development together with our plans for a good profit.
